So, it just dawned on me. I finally dont care if there is a god.
I used to think that there was, first because I was raised that way, then because I wanted there to be one.
Then I figured there probably is a god, just one that doesn't care about us, at least not on a direct personal level.
Next I thought that there wasn't a god becasue it didn't make any sense.
Finally this morning, (really not 10 mins ago) I just stopped caring.
If there is any sort of afterlife, I'll find out sooner or later, and if there isn't I'll never know... so why bother caring about it one way or the other.
Anyway, thats my morning revalation.

Re: I have seen the light...I guess
Thu, February 5, 2004 - 12:22 PMamen. barring any first person experience with divinity, there's really just nothing to think about. the question of being, and of the history of the universe is as wide-open as a question can be, and there's no particular reason to favor divinity over any of the infinity of other answers (except, perhaps, the human predisposition to attribute meaningful events to human(-like) agency).
there's the famous pascal's wager, in which he says that either god exists or he doesn't, and either you believe in him or you don't, and the only configuration of events with any consequence is that in which god exists and you don't believe in him (and you therefore go to hell) - punchline being that you should therefore believe. someone might say, "what about the anti-god, who requires that you don't believe in gods, otherwise you will go to hell?"
the possible natures of divinity, if it exists, are too many to meaningfully consider. i am pretty sure that the only way to lose is to spend any time thinking about it at all.
(here i am losing.) -

Thu, February 5, 2004 - 12:33 PMor the only way to lose is to spend more time *than necessary* considering your metaphysical options.
in which case, we can't lose, but those who watch pat robertson are already lost. ;)

Re: I have seen the light...I guess
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 2:32 PMI think the only time I ever really cared is when I was really little and prayed to God not to get caught over something.
Now, I just enjoy talking about it with other people. How I used to pray I mean.
