Re: Aaltuit Web Site
Mon, January 19, 2004 - 3:39 PMAlthough undoubtedly an interesting religion, my apathy overcame me after I read the first paragraph and found that it was about religion.

Definition from Dictionary.com;

A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
I am so confused (and apathetic, of course) -

Tue, January 20, 2004 - 3:25 AMAaltuit is an interesting premise, Linda--despite the seeming contradiction of terms. Thank you for sharing... And don't mind some of the others around here, who's sense of common courtesy has somehow been overcome by the need for drole apathy.

Re: Aaltuit Web Site
Tue, January 20, 2004 - 6:58 AMToo true.
If I was the type that felt the need for religion, however, I might consider this one.
What about you, Linda? You gave us the link, but didn't share your thoughts/feelings about it. -

Re: Aaltuit Web Site
Wed, January 21, 2004 - 12:43 PMDoes this mean that you are creating Aaltuit as an apatheistic religion? That's a very interesting concept and one I must contemplate. I hadn't really considered that it might make sense to have a religion that doesn't care if there is or is not a god or gods.

Re: Aaltuit Web Site
Wed, January 21, 2004 - 1:12 PMMy apologies if I came off as being rude, the terseness of the media works in that way at times.
It does reopen thoughts as to why we created religion in the first place and are we better off with it, or will something bad happen if we don't have it. As an agnostic, all I know is that I have seen no evidence of a higher power except for the one that is created in our image and minds.
The Einstein quote on the page was interesting, but contextually biased. There is still a tremendous social bias against non-believers, so much so that a recent poll indicated that even people that identified themselves as non-religious said that they would prefer a deeply religious man in the White House. In the US in the last century, (and this one the way things are going) it was a bad thing to be an atheist or agnostic.
The high degree of inclusion shown by Unitarians and your group is a new religious trend but it still appears to have more to do with a need to belong and congregate than it does any monumental shift in the thinking of mankind.
If that is the case, isn’t a social club or worse a cult, closer to this concept than religion. If you want to redefine the understanding of the term religion then make that point, but I still have to say. “why bother”?

Re: Aaltuit Web Site
Wed, January 21, 2004 - 4:18 PMInteresting, interesting.
Arent our social needs better met by just hanging out with people in our community? I mean, religions were around I sometimes think because the world is complicated, and if there are storm gods or hands of god you can sort of blow off trying to understand anything.
So yeah, maybe we dont need another religion, we just need better community centers and more bars. -

Re: Aaltuit Web Site
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 12:24 PMI have the same questions as the others, Linda...
why pursue a social need/goal in a religious context?
what does this approach provide that another approach could not?
